Cognitive Computing Approaches for Next-Generation Knowledge Discovery Systems

| Abstract | The rapid expansion of digital information has created significant challenges in extracting meaningful knowledge from increasingly complex and heterogeneous data environments. Traditional data processing approaches often demonstrate limitations in understanding contextual relationships, human behaviour patterns, and dynamic information structures. Cognitive computing has emerged as an advanced computational paradigm that combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, data analytics, and human-inspired reasoning capabilities to support intelligent knowledge discovery. Unlike conventional analytical systems, cognitive computing approaches aim to interpret, learn, and adapt from information sources in a manner that more closely reflects human cognitive processes. This study examines cognitive computing approaches for developing next-generation knowledge discovery systems capable of generating deeper insights from complex data ecosystems. The research explores the role of cognitive architectures, intelligent analytics, adaptive learning mechanisms, and contextual reasoning in improving knowledge extraction and decision-support capabilities. A simulation-based analytical framework is developed to compare conventional data discovery models with cognitive computing-based approaches using evaluation parameters including discovery accuracy, contextual understanding, adaptability, and decision-support effectiveness. The analytical findings indicate that cognitive computing approaches provide improved knowledge discovery performance by integrating advanced learning mechanisms with contextual interpretation capabilities. The results demonstrate that cognitive systems enhance the ability to identify hidden patterns, process unstructured information, and generate meaningful insights for strategic decision-making. The study contributes to emerging research on intelligent information systems by presenting cognitive computing as a foundation for future knowledge discovery environments where artificial intelligence and human-like reasoning capabilities work collaboratively. |
