Abstract Global sustainability challenges have become increasingly complex due to climate change, resource limitations, environmental degradation, social inequalities, and growing pressure on natural systems. Traditional approaches to development and resource management are often insufficient for addressing interconnected sustainability problems that require adaptive, innovative, and long-term solutions. Innovation-based approaches have emerged as important mechanisms for developing new technologies, organizational models, and social strategies capable of supporting sustainable global development. This research examines Innovation-Based Approaches for Global Sustainability Challenges by analysing how technological, organizational, environmental, and social innovations contribute to addressing major sustainability concerns. The study adopts a conceptual research approach based on existing theoretical perspectives related to sustainable innovation, green technologies, circular economy, social innovation, and sustainability transformation. The analysis highlights that innovation can support sustainability through renewable energy solutions, resource-efficient technologies, circular production systems, digital sustainability platforms, and inclusive development models. Innovation-based approaches enable organizations, governments, and communities to develop adaptive solutions that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility and social well-being.
The study identifies major challenges associated with sustainability-oriented innovation, including investment limitations, technological uncertainty, policy barriers, adoption difficulties, resource constraints, and coordination challenges among stakeholders. Effective sustainability transformation requires collaborative innovation ecosystems, responsible governance, and integration of scientific knowledge with practical implementation. The research concludes that innovation-based approaches provide a powerful pathway for addressing global sustainability challenges. Future sustainability strategies must combine technological advancement, social participation, environmental responsibility, and policy support to create resilient systems capable of supporting long-term global development.
