| Abstract | Research-based organizations operate in increasingly complex knowledge environments where the creation, management, and effective utilization of information are essential for scientific advancement and innovation. The rapid growth of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and collaborative research platforms has transformed traditional knowledge management practices. Intelligent Knowledge Management Systems (IKMS) have emerged as advanced frameworks that integrate computational intelligence with knowledge processes to support research discovery, collaboration, decision-making, and organizational learning. This research examines Intelligent Knowledge Management Systems and their role in enhancing the capabilities of research-based organizations. The study adopts a conceptual research approach based on existing theoretical frameworks and scholarly perspectives related to knowledge management, artificial intelligence, organizational learning, research innovation, and digital transformation. The analysis highlights that intelligent knowledge management systems improve research performance by enabling automated knowledge discovery, efficient information organization, advanced analytics, collaborative knowledge sharing, and strategic decision support. AI-driven systems can identify patterns within large research datasets, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and improve access to valuable intellectual resources. The study also identifies challenges associated with implementing intelligent knowledge management systems, including data governance issues, knowledge security concerns, technological complexity, organizational resistance, and skill limitations. Effective implementation requires appropriate infrastructure, ethical governance, digital competencies, and alignment between technology and research objectives. The research concludes that Intelligent Knowledge Management Systems represent a significant advancement for research-based organizations by transforming knowledge into a strategic capability. Future research organizations will increasingly depend on intelligent knowledge ecosystems that combine human expertise, artificial intelligence, and collaborative digital infrastructures to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation. |
