Abstract The rapid transformation of global economies through digitalization, automation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies has significantly changed the requirements of workforce capabilities. Innovation-centric economies increasingly depend on skilled human resources capable of adapting to technological changes, generating creative solutions, and contributing to knowledge-driven development. Future skills development has therefore become a strategic priority for organizations, educational institutions, and policymakers seeking to build competitive and sustainable economic systems. This research examines the importance of future skills development in supporting innovation-centric economies and explores the relationship between workforce capabilities, technological transformation, and economic competitiveness. The study adopts a conceptual research approach based on existing theoretical perspectives and scholarly discussions related to human capital development, digital transformation, innovation management, and lifelong learning. The research analyses key skill categories required for future economies, including digital literacy, analytical thinking, creativity, collaboration, adaptability, and technological competence.
The findings indicate that future skills development contributes significantly to innovation capacity by enabling individuals and organizations to effectively utilize emerging technologies and respond to changing economic conditions. However, challenges such as skill gaps, unequal access to learning opportunities, outdated educational systems, and rapid technological changes continue to affect workforce readiness. The study highlights the importance of industry–education collaboration, flexible learning frameworks, and continuous professional development for creating future-ready human capital.
The research concludes that innovation-centric economies require a balanced integration of technology and human capabilities. Future skills development should not be viewed only as an employment strategy but as a comprehensive approach for strengthening innovation ecosystems, improving economic resilience, and supporting sustainable global development.
