| Abstract | The increasing pressure on global agricultural systems due to climate change, population growth, resource limitations, and environmental degradation has accelerated the development of biotechnology-based approaches for sustainable crop improvement. Agricultural biotechnology provides advanced strategies for enhancing crop productivity, improving stress tolerance, reducing dependence on chemical inputs, and supporting environmentally responsible farming systems. This conceptual research article examines biotechnology-based innovations for sustainable crop development by analysing genetic improvement techniques, molecular breeding approaches, bio-based agricultural solutions, and emerging biotechnological strategies. The study adopts a conceptual research methodology based on the synthesis of scholarly literature, crop biotechnology frameworks, sustainable agriculture models, and plant science research. The analysis indicates that biotechnology applications, including genetic engineering, genomic selection, molecular markers, biofertilizers, and microbial technologies, contribute significantly to developing resilient and productive crop systems. However, challenges related to regulatory frameworks, ethical considerations, public acceptance, research costs, biodiversity concerns, and technology accessibility influence widespread adoption. The study concludes that biotechnology-based innovations can support sustainable crop development when implemented through scientifically responsible approaches, effective governance mechanisms, ecological considerations, and inclusive agricultural strategies. |
