| Abstract | The increasing demand for food production, shortage of agricultural labour, climate uncertainty, and the need for sustainable farming practices have accelerated the development of agricultural robotics and automation technologies. Next-generation farming systems are increasingly incorporating autonomous machines, robotic platforms, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and intelligent control systems to improve agricultural productivity, precision, and operational efficiency. This conceptual research article examines the role of agricultural robotics and automation in transforming modern farming systems by analysing robotic applications, automation frameworks, productivity improvements, and future development opportunities. The study adopts a conceptual research methodology based on the synthesis of scholarly literature, smart farming frameworks, agricultural automation models, and robotics applications. The analysis indicates that agricultural robotics can enhance farming efficiency through automated crop monitoring, precision harvesting, intelligent weed management, autonomous navigation, and optimized resource utilization. However, challenges related to high implementation costs, technological complexity, infrastructure requirements, maintenance, and farmer adoption continue to influence widespread deployment. The study concludes that next-generation farming will increasingly depend on the integration of robotics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable agricultural practices. Successful transformation requires accessible technologies, supportive policies, skilled workforce development, and responsible implementation strategies. |
