| Abstract | Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have emerged as a transformative approach for developing smart mobility solutions by integrating advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, communication networks, and data analytics into modern transportation environments. Increasing urbanization, rising mobility demands, traffic congestion, and environmental concerns have created the need for efficient, safe, and sustainable transportation systems. This conceptual research article examines the role of intelligent transportation systems in improving mobility management, traffic optimization, transportation safety, and urban sustainability. The study explores the contribution of technologies such as artificial intelligence, connected vehicles, autonomous transportation systems, intelligent traffic management, and real-time data processing toward developing future mobility ecosystems. A conceptual research methodology is adopted through the analysis of existing scholarly literature, smart transportation frameworks, digital mobility models, and intelligent infrastructure approaches. The findings indicate that ITS provides significant opportunities for improving transportation efficiency, reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and supporting sustainable urban development. However, challenges related to infrastructure investment, cybersecurity, data privacy, technological integration, and policy coordination remain important barriers. The study concludes that intelligent transportation systems represent a critical pathway for achieving connected, efficient, and sustainable smart mobility solutions. |
