Environmental Governance Models for Sustainable Resource Management

Abstract The increasing pressure on natural resources, environmental degradation, climate uncertainties, and ecological imbalance has created a critical need for effective environmental governance models capable of supporting sustainable resource management. Traditional resource management approaches often focus on centralized decision-making and short-term utilization strategies, which may result in inefficient resource allocation and limited consideration of long-term environmental sustainability. Environmental governance has emerged as an important framework that integrates policy coordination, stakeholder participation, scientific knowledge, and sustainable management practices.
This study examines environmental governance models for sustainable resource management by analysing their contribution to resource efficiency, environmental protection, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainability performance. The research explores key governance approaches including collaborative governance, adaptive management frameworks, ecosystem-based governance, policy integration models, and participatory resource management systems. A simulation-based analytical methodology is developed to compare traditional governance approaches with sustainable environmental governance models using evaluation indicators including resource management efficiency, environmental compliance, stakeholder participation, and sustainability outcomes.
The findings demonstrate that effective environmental governance models significantly improve sustainable resource management through integrated decision-making, improved coordination, and responsible resource utilization. The results indicate that participatory and adaptive governance frameworks provide stronger capabilities for addressing complex environmental challenges. However, successful implementation requires addressing challenges related to policy coordination, institutional capacity, stakeholder engagement, resource allocation, and long-term governance planning.
