| Abstract | The rapid growth of urban populations and increasing complexity of city management have created a strong demand for intelligent technologies capable of supporting sustainable urban development. Traditional urban management approaches often face limitations in resource optimization, infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, and efficient service delivery. Smart computing technologies have emerged as advanced solutions by integrating artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data analytics, cloud computing, and intelligent decision-support systems to improve urban sustainability and enhance quality of life. This study examines smart computing technologies for sustainable urban development by analysing their contribution to resource efficiency, urban service optimization, environmental sustainability, and intelligent decision-making. The research explores key smart computing applications including AI-driven urban analytics, IoT-based infrastructure monitoring, intelligent transportation systems, smart energy management, and data-driven urban planning frameworks. A simulation-based analytical framework is developed to compare traditional urban management approaches with smart computing-enabled sustainable development models using evaluation indicators including resource efficiency, service performance, environmental impact reduction, and urban adaptability. The findings demonstrate that smart computing technologies significantly improve sustainable urban development capabilities through real-time data processing, predictive analysis, automated management, and optimized resource utilization. The results indicate that intelligent urban systems enable more effective management of transportation, energy, environment, and public services. However, successful implementation requires addressing challenges related to digital infrastructure, data security, technology integration, governance frameworks, and implementation costs. The study contributes to smart city and urban technology research by presenting smart computing as a strategic foundation for sustainable urban transformation. The integration of artificial intelligence, connected systems, advanced analytics, and responsible governance can support the development of efficient, resilient, and future-ready urban ecosystems. |
