| Abstract | The increasing complexity of scientific, technological, environmental, and social challenges has created a growing need for research approaches that extend beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. Interdisciplinary research provides a collaborative framework where knowledge, methods, and perspectives from multiple academic fields are integrated to address complex problems and generate innovative solutions. By combining diverse expertise, interdisciplinary approaches contribute to scientific advancement, technological development, and social transformation. This study examines the role of interdisciplinary research as a driver of scientific and social innovation by analysing how cross-disciplinary collaboration, knowledge integration, institutional support, and research networks influence innovation outcomes. The research adopts an analytical framework based on interdisciplinary collaboration maturity, knowledge exchange effectiveness, scientific innovation capacity, social impact generation, and research sustainability. A structured evaluation approach is applied to assess how interdisciplinary practices contribute to transformative research outcomes. The findings indicate that research environments supporting strong interdisciplinary collaboration demonstrate improved innovation performance, enhanced problem-solving capacity, and greater societal impact. However, challenges related to disciplinary differences, communication barriers, institutional structures, funding limitations, and evaluation systems continue to influence interdisciplinary research effectiveness. The study highlights that interdisciplinary research represents an essential mechanism for addressing contemporary challenges that cannot be effectively solved through isolated disciplinary approaches. Successful interdisciplinary ecosystems require supportive institutions, flexible research structures, collaborative cultures, and recognition of diverse knowledge contributions. The research contributes to innovation studies by demonstrating the importance of knowledge integration and collaborative research models in advancing scientific progress and social development. |
