Emotional Intelligence and Interpersonal Relationship Quality

| Abstract | Emotional intelligence has emerged as an important psychological construct influencing human communication, social adaptation, leadership behaviour, and interpersonal functioning. The ability to understand, regulate, and appropriately express emotions plays a significant role in developing meaningful relationships and maintaining effective social interactions. In contemporary societies characterized by complex professional, educational, and personal environments, interpersonal relationship quality has become increasingly dependent on individuals’ emotional awareness and relational competencies. This study examines the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship quality through a simulation-based analytical framework. The research evaluates the influence of emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, social skills, and interpersonal sensitivity on relationship outcomes. A simulated dataset representing different levels of emotional intelligence among individuals was developed to analyse the relationship between emotional competencies and interpersonal relationship indicators. The findings indicate that higher levels of emotional intelligence are associated with improved interpersonal relationship quality through enhanced communication, conflict management, empathy, and mutual understanding. Individuals demonstrating stronger emotional regulation and social awareness show greater relationship satisfaction, trust development, and collaborative effectiveness. However, challenges related to emotional awareness differences, communication barriers, cultural variations, and psychological stress may influence relationship outcomes. The study highlights that emotional intelligence should be considered a significant factor in developing healthy interpersonal relationships across personal, educational, and professional environments. Effective emotional intelligence development programs can support improved communication patterns, stronger social connections, and enhanced psychological well-being. |
