Remote Work and Work–Life Balance among Knowledge Professionals

| Abstract | The transformation of contemporary workplaces through digital technologies has significantly accelerated the adoption of remote work arrangements among knowledge professionals. Advances in communication platforms, cloud computing, collaborative software, and digital project management systems have enabled employees to perform complex professional activities beyond traditional office environments. While remote work provides increased flexibility, autonomy, and opportunities for improved personal well-being, it has also introduced challenges related to work boundaries, social isolation, workload management, and psychological adaptation. This study examines the relationship between remote work practices and work–life balance among knowledge professionals through a simulation-based analytical framework. The research evaluates how remote work flexibility, digital collaboration practices, workload management, organizational support, and boundary control influence work–life balance outcomes. A simulated dataset representing different remote work conditions was developed to analyse the relationship between workplace flexibility and employee well-being indicators. The findings indicate that remote work can positively contribute to work–life balance when supported by effective organizational policies, digital infrastructure, and employee autonomy. Professionals experiencing greater control over work schedules demonstrate improved personal time management, reduced commuting pressure, and enhanced satisfaction. However, excessive digital connectivity, unclear work expectations, and difficulty separating professional and personal responsibilities may negatively influence work–life harmony. The study highlights that remote work should not be evaluated only as a technological arrangement but as an organizational transformation requiring appropriate management practices. Sustainable remote work models require supportive leadership, communication frameworks, employee well-being initiatives, and clear work boundary policies. |
