| Abstract | Indigenous agricultural knowledge represents a valuable collection of traditional practices, ecological observations, and resource management strategies developed through long-term interactions between farming communities and natural environments. In the context of increasing climate variability, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and resource constraints, indigenous knowledge systems have gained renewed attention as potential contributors to contemporary sustainable agriculture. The integration of traditional ecological understanding with modern scientific approaches provides opportunities for developing resilient and environmentally responsible farming systems. This study examines the contribution of indigenous agricultural knowledge toward contemporary sustainability practices through a simulation-based analytical framework. The research evaluates the influence of traditional soil management, biodiversity conservation methods, indigenous crop selection practices, natural resource management approaches, and community-based agricultural strategies on sustainability outcomes. A simulated dataset representing different levels of indigenous knowledge integration was developed to analyse impacts on ecological resilience, resource efficiency, productivity stability, and sustainable farming performance. The findings indicate that agricultural systems incorporating indigenous knowledge principles demonstrate improved sustainability outcomes through enhanced biodiversity management, reduced external input dependency, and better adaptation to environmental variations. Integrated approaches combining indigenous practices with modern agricultural technologies show stronger potential for improving long-term sustainability. However, challenges related to knowledge documentation, scientific validation, commercialization pressures, and changing rural lifestyles influence effective adoption. The study highlights that indigenous agricultural knowledge should be considered an important component of contemporary sustainability frameworks. Effective integration requires respectful knowledge recognition, interdisciplinary research collaboration, community participation, and evidence-based adaptation. The research contributes to understanding how traditional ecological wisdom can support modern agricultural sustainability and climate-resilient farming systems. |
