Abstract Women play a significant role in agricultural production, resource management, food processing, and rural livelihood development. However, their contributions have historically remained undervalued due to limited access to land ownership, financial resources, technological knowledge, decision-making opportunities, and agricultural support systems. Increasing recognition of women’s participation in agricultural innovation has highlighted their potential to contribute significantly to sustainable rural development and inclusive agricultural transformation.
This study examines women’s participation in agricultural innovation and rural development through a conceptual analysis of women-led farming practices, agricultural entrepreneurship, digital technology adoption, knowledge sharing, and community-based development initiatives. The research explores how women’s involvement in agricultural innovation contributes to productivity improvement, livelihood security, social empowerment, and sustainable rural economic growth.
The study adopts an analytical framework based on gender-inclusive development, agricultural innovation systems, rural entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihood approaches. The findings indicate that women’s participation enhances agricultural productivity through improved resource management, diversification of farming activities, adoption of innovative practices, and strengthening of local food systems. However, challenges related to limited access to resources, social barriers, financial constraints, and inadequate institutional support continue to restrict their full participation.
The study concludes that empowering women in agriculture is essential for achieving sustainable rural development. Strengthening access to technology, education, finance, training, and decision-making platforms can enhance women’s contribution to agricultural innovation and create more inclusive and resilient rural economies.
