Sustainable Packaging Innovation and Consumer Acceptance

| Abstract | Growing environmental concerns associated with plastic pollution, resource depletion, and increasing waste generation have accelerated the development of sustainable packaging innovations. Traditional packaging systems based primarily on non-renewable materials contribute significantly to environmental degradation and waste management challenges. Sustainable packaging has emerged as an important solution by incorporating recyclable, biodegradable, renewable, and resource-efficient materials into product packaging systems. This study examines sustainable packaging innovation and consumer acceptance through a conceptual analysis of eco-friendly packaging technologies, consumer perceptions, purchasing behaviour, environmental awareness, and market adoption factors. The research explores how innovative packaging solutions influence consumer decision-making and contribute to sustainable consumption patterns. The study adopts an analytical framework based on sustainable consumption theory, environmental psychology, green marketing principles, and circular economy approaches. The findings indicate that sustainable packaging innovations improve environmental performance while creating opportunities for brands to strengthen consumer trust and market differentiation. However, factors such as higher product prices, limited consumer awareness, packaging performance concerns, and inconsistent recycling infrastructure influence acceptance levels. The study concludes that successful adoption of sustainable packaging requires both technological innovation and consumer engagement. Combining environmentally responsible packaging design with transparent communication, affordability, and effective recycling systems can enhance consumer acceptance and support the transition toward circular consumption models. |
