Food Waste Reduction through Intelligent Supply Chain Management

| Abstract | Food waste has become a critical global challenge due to its environmental, economic, and social consequences. Inefficient supply chain operations, inadequate storage systems, demand forecasting errors, transportation limitations, and poor inventory management contribute significantly to food losses across production, distribution, and consumption stages. Intelligent supply chain management has emerged as an innovative approach for reducing food waste through the integration of digital technologies, predictive analytics, automation, and real-time monitoring systems. This study examines food waste reduction through intelligent supply chain management by analysing the role of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things technologies, blockchain systems, data-driven forecasting, and smart logistics solutions. The research explores how intelligent supply chain approaches improve resource efficiency, enhance inventory control, optimize transportation, and minimize food losses throughout the supply network. The study adopts a conceptual analytical framework based on sustainable supply chain management, digital transformation, circular economy principles, and food system sustainability approaches. The findings indicate that intelligent supply chain systems significantly improve food waste management by enabling accurate demand prediction, real-time product tracking, efficient storage conditions, and improved decision-making. However, challenges related to technology adoption costs, data integration, infrastructure limitations, and stakeholder coordination affect implementation effectiveness. The study concludes that intelligent supply chain management provides an effective pathway for reducing food waste and creating sustainable food systems. Integrating advanced digital technologies with collaborative supply chain strategies can improve operational efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and support global food sustainability objectives. |
