Carbon Footprint Reduction through Sustainable Supply Chain Practices

| Abstract | The increasing impact of industrial activities on climate change has created an urgent need for reducing carbon emissions across global supply chains. Supply chain operations, including sourcing, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and logistics, contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. Sustainable supply chain practices have emerged as an effective approach for minimizing carbon footprints while improving operational efficiency, resource utilization, and long-term business sustainability. This study examines carbon footprint reduction through sustainable supply chain practices by analysing green procurement, energy-efficient production, sustainable logistics, circular supply chain strategies, and digital technologies for emission monitoring. The research explores how organizations can integrate environmental considerations into supply chain decision-making to achieve lower emissions and improved sustainability performance. The study adopts a conceptual analytical framework based on existing sustainability management literature, green supply chain models, and carbon reduction strategies. The findings indicate that sustainable supply chain practices significantly contribute to emission reduction through improved resource efficiency, renewable energy adoption, waste minimization, and optimized transportation systems. However, challenges including implementation costs, supplier coordination issues, data limitations, and technological barriers continue to influence adoption. The study concludes that sustainable supply chain management provides a strategic pathway for organizations seeking to reduce carbon footprints and achieve climate-oriented business goals. Effective collaboration among suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, policymakers, and consumers is essential for developing low-carbon and resilient supply chain networks. |
