| Abstract | Increasing environmental challenges, including climate change, resource depletion, pollution, and biodiversity loss, have intensified the need for sustainable consumption practices. Consumer behaviour plays a significant role in shaping environmental outcomes because daily purchasing decisions influence resource utilization, waste generation, and ecological impacts. Environmental awareness has emerged as an important factor affecting consumer attitudes, values, and willingness to adopt sustainable consumption patterns. This study examines the relationship between sustainable consumption behavior and environmental awareness through a conceptual analysis of consumer decision-making processes, sustainability practices, and behavioural transformation mechanisms. The research explores how environmental knowledge, ecological values, social influence, and responsible consumption practices contribute to sustainable lifestyle adoption. The study adopts an analytical framework based on existing sustainability literature, consumer behaviour theories, and environmental psychology perspectives. The findings indicate that environmental awareness positively influences sustainable consumption by encouraging responsible purchasing, waste reduction, energy conservation, and preference for environmentally friendly products. However, challenges such as price sensitivity, limited information availability, convenience preferences, and gaps between environmental attitudes and actual behaviour continue to restrict sustainable consumption adoption. The study concludes that strengthening environmental education, improving product transparency, encouraging sustainable business practices, and developing supportive policy frameworks are essential for promoting long-term sustainable consumption behaviour. Enhanced environmental awareness can serve as a foundation for creating responsible consumer cultures and supporting global sustainability objectives. |
