| Abstract | The increasing environmental impact of industrial production systems has created a strong need for sustainable product development approaches that consider environmental performance throughout the entire product lifecycle. Traditional product design practices often focus primarily on functionality, cost, and manufacturing efficiency while giving limited attention to resource consumption, environmental impacts, and end-of-life management. Life-Cycle Engineering has emerged as an integrated approach that enables designers and manufacturers to evaluate and optimize products from raw material extraction to disposal or recovery. This study examines the role of Life-Cycle Engineering in supporting sustainable product design by analysing material selection, lifecycle assessment, energy optimization, waste reduction, and circular design integration. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the influence of lifecycle-based design strategies on sustainable product performance. The findings indicate that lifecycle assessment capability, sustainable material selection, energy efficiency improvement, recyclability enhancement, and circular design integration significantly contribute to improved product sustainability outcomes. However, challenges including data availability, assessment complexity, higher design costs, technological limitations, and organizational adaptation requirements continue to influence implementation. The study contributes to sustainable engineering and product development research by highlighting the importance of lifecycle thinking in creating environmentally responsible products. The findings provide practical implications for product designers, manufacturing organizations, sustainability professionals, and researchers seeking advanced strategies for reducing environmental impacts and improving resource efficiency. |
