| Abstract | The rapid evolution of digital technologies has transformed traditional manufacturing systems by creating digitally connected factories where real-time information, automation, and intelligent decision-making support operational improvement. Lean manufacturing principles, traditionally focused on waste reduction, continuous improvement, and process optimization, are increasingly being integrated with Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance operational excellence. This combination provides new opportunities for improving productivity, quality, flexibility, and resource efficiency. This study examines the relationship between lean manufacturing practices and operational excellence in digitally connected factories. The research explores how digital monitoring, data-driven decision-making, smart automation, continuous improvement systems, and real-time process optimization contribute to enhanced manufacturing performance. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the influence of digitally integrated lean practices on operational excellence. The findings indicate that real-time process monitoring, waste reduction capability, data-driven improvement decisions, smart automation support, and continuous improvement practices significantly contribute to operational performance enhancement. However, challenges including technology investment requirements, workforce adaptation, data integration complexity, cybersecurity risks, and organizational change management continue to influence adoption. The study contributes to lean management and smart manufacturing research by highlighting the importance of integrating traditional improvement philosophies with advanced digital technologies. The findings provide practical implications for manufacturing organizations seeking sustainable operational excellence in digitally connected production environments. |
