| Abstract | The increasing global emphasis on reducing carbon emissions has accelerated the development and application of sustainable materials in modern engineering systems. Conventional engineering materials often involve high energy consumption, extensive resource extraction, and significant environmental impacts throughout their lifecycle. Sustainable materials provide an alternative approach by improving resource efficiency, reducing carbon footprints, and supporting environmentally responsible engineering practices. This study examines the role of sustainable materials in low-carbon engineering applications. The research explores how bio-based materials, recycled materials, lightweight composites, energy-efficient materials, and circular material strategies contribute to reducing environmental impact while maintaining engineering performance. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the influence of sustainable material characteristics on low-carbon engineering outcomes. The findings indicate that carbon reduction capability, material recyclability, energy efficiency, durability enhancement, and lifecycle sustainability significantly contribute to improved low-carbon engineering performance. However, challenges including material cost, performance limitations, industrial scalability, standardization issues, and technological barriers continue to influence widespread adoption. The study contributes to sustainable engineering and green technology research by highlighting the importance of advanced material selection for achieving low-carbon industrial development. The findings provide practical implications for engineers, researchers, manufacturers, and policymakers seeking sustainable solutions for future engineering applications. |
