Abstract The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced new possibilities for improving healthcare accessibility, communication, and patient support services. Artificial intelligence chatbots have emerged as digital healthcare tools capable of providing preliminary health information, answering basic health-related queries, supporting symptom guidance, and improving communication between patients and healthcare systems. These technologies offer opportunities to enhance healthcare accessibility, particularly by providing immediate responses and reducing pressure on healthcare professionals.
This study examines the role of artificial intelligence chatbots in delivering preliminary health information and supporting patients through digital healthcare platforms. The research explores how chatbot-based systems contribute to health education, symptom assessment support, appointment assistance, healthcare navigation, and patient engagement. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of AI chatbot capabilities toward improving patient support outcomes.
The findings indicate that AI chatbots can enhance healthcare accessibility through improved information availability, faster communication, patient guidance, and healthcare service navigation. However, challenges including accuracy limitations, ethical concerns, privacy risks, lack of human interaction, algorithmic bias, and regulatory uncertainties continue to influence their effective implementation.
The study contributes to digital health and healthcare informatics research by highlighting the potential of AI-powered conversational systems as supportive tools within modern healthcare environments. The findings provide practical implications for healthcare organizations, technology developers, policymakers, and healthcare professionals seeking responsible approaches for integrating AI chatbots into patient support systems.
