| Abstract | The increasing digitization of healthcare systems has created significant opportunities for improving healthcare delivery through electronic health records, digital health platforms, and interconnected information systems. However, secure exchange of health information remains a major challenge due to concerns related to data privacy, cybersecurity threats, interoperability limitations, and unauthorized access. Blockchain technology has emerged as a promising solution for strengthening healthcare information exchange by providing decentralized data management, enhanced security, transparency, and improved control over health records. This study examines the applications of blockchain technology in secure health information exchange. The research explores how blockchain-based systems support data integrity, patient-controlled information access, healthcare interoperability, secure transactions, and trusted communication among healthcare stakeholders. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of blockchain capabilities toward improving health information security. The findings indicate that blockchain applications improve healthcare data security through enhanced privacy protection, transparent access management, improved interoperability, and reduced risks of unauthorized modification. However, challenges including scalability limitations, implementation costs, regulatory uncertainty, technical complexity, and integration with existing healthcare systems continue to influence widespread adoption. The study contributes to health informatics and digital healthcare research by highlighting the potential of blockchain technology for developing secure and trustworthy healthcare information ecosystems. The findings provide practical implications for healthcare organizations, technology developers, policymakers, and researchers seeking effective approaches for secure health data exchange. |
