Social Determinants of Health and Inequalities in Healthcare Access

| Abstract | Healthcare access is influenced by multiple social, economic, environmental, and structural factors that shape individuals’ ability to obtain timely and appropriate healthcare services. Social determinants of health, including income level, education, employment conditions, housing stability, social support, and geographic location, play a significant role in creating differences in health outcomes and healthcare accessibility among populations. This study examines the relationship between social determinants of health and inequalities in healthcare access. The research explores how socioeconomic conditions, educational opportunities, healthcare availability, social environment, and community resources influence individuals’ ability to receive healthcare services. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of social determinants toward healthcare access inequalities. The findings indicate that socioeconomic status, healthcare availability, educational opportunities, and geographic accessibility significantly influence healthcare access outcomes. Individuals experiencing economic disadvantage, limited education, or reduced healthcare availability may face greater barriers in obtaining preventive and essential medical services. However, challenges including structural inequality, resource distribution differences, social exclusion, and policy limitations continue to affect healthcare equity. The study contributes to public health and health equity research by highlighting the importance of addressing social determinants as a pathway for reducing healthcare disparities. The findings provide practical implications for policymakers, healthcare organizations, community health professionals, and social development institutions seeking strategies to improve equitable healthcare access. |
