| Abstract | Medication adherence is a critical factor influencing health outcomes among older adults, particularly those managing multiple chronic conditions and long-term treatment plans. Non-adherence to prescribed medications can lead to disease complications, increased healthcare utilization, and reduced quality of life. Mobile health applications have emerged as promising digital health solutions that support medication management through reminders, monitoring tools, health education resources, and communication features. This study examines the role of mobile health applications in improving medication adherence among older adults. The research explores how medication reminders, digital health monitoring, medication information access, caregiver support features, and user engagement influence adherence behaviors. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of mobile health applications toward improving medication management practices among elderly populations. The findings indicate that mobile health applications positively influence medication adherence by improving medication scheduling, increasing health awareness, supporting self-management, and strengthening communication between patients and healthcare providers. However, challenges including technology literacy limitations, accessibility issues, privacy concerns, usability difficulties, and device adoption barriers continue to influence successful implementation among older adults. The study contributes to digital health and geriatric healthcare research by highlighting the importance of mobile technologies in supporting medication management and improving healthcare outcomes among aging populations. The findings provide practical implications for healthcare professionals, application developers, caregivers, and policymakers seeking effective strategies for enhancing medication adherence. |
