| Abstract | Health literacy has become an important determinant of individual and community health outcomes by influencing people’s ability to access, understand, evaluate, and apply health-related information. In modern healthcare systems, effective preventive healthcare behavior depends not only on the availability of medical services but also on individuals’ capacity to make informed decisions regarding disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, screening participation, and early healthcare utilization. This study examines the relationship between health literacy and preventive healthcare behavior. The research explores how health information understanding, healthcare decision-making ability, preventive awareness, health communication skills, and self-management practices influence preventive health behaviors. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of health literacy toward improving preventive healthcare practices. The findings indicate that higher levels of health literacy positively influence preventive healthcare behavior by improving awareness, encouraging timely medical consultation, supporting healthy lifestyle choices, and increasing participation in preventive screening activities. However, challenges including misinformation, educational inequalities, limited access to reliable health resources, cultural barriers, and communication difficulties continue to affect health literacy development. The study contributes to public health and healthcare education research by highlighting the importance of improving health literacy as a strategy for strengthening preventive healthcare systems. The findings provide practical implications for healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and community organizations seeking effective approaches for promoting healthier populations. |
