| Abstract | Practical experimentation represents a fundamental component of science and engineering education because it enables students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. However, traditional laboratory learning environments often face limitations related to equipment availability, safety concerns, resource costs, geographical accessibility, and limited opportunities for repeated experimentation. Virtual laboratories have emerged as an innovative educational approach that provides simulated experimental environments where students can perform practical activities through digital platforms. This study examines the role of virtual laboratories in enhancing practical learning outcomes in science and engineering education. The research explores how virtual experimentation, interactive simulations, remote accessibility, experimental repetition, and digital feedback mechanisms influence students’ conceptual understanding and practical skills development. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of virtual laboratories toward improving laboratory-based learning experiences. The findings indicate that virtual laboratories positively influence practical learning by improving accessibility, supporting experimentation, increasing learner confidence, and enabling repeated practice. However, challenges including limited physical experience, technology infrastructure requirements, simulation accuracy concerns, and digital competency gaps continue to affect effective implementation. The study contributes to educational technology and science engineering pedagogy research by explaining how virtual laboratories can complement traditional laboratory practices. The findings provide practical implications for educators, institutions, and technology developers seeking effective approaches for integrating digital experimentation into science and engineering education. |
