| Abstract | The increasing complexity of modern social, professional, and technological environments has created a growing demand for educational approaches that develop skills beyond traditional academic knowledge. Twenty-first-century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and digital competence, have become essential capabilities for learners preparing for future challenges. Project-Based Learning (PBL) has emerged as an effective learner-centered approach that promotes active participation, inquiry-based exploration, and practical application of knowledge. This study examines the relationship between Project-Based Learning and the development of twenty-first-century skills. The research explores how collaborative projects, problem-solving activities, research-based learning, communication practices, and reflective experiences contribute to students’ development of essential future-oriented competencies. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of PBL toward strengthening twenty-first-century skill development. The findings indicate that Project-Based Learning positively influences skill development by encouraging creativity, teamwork, independent thinking, communication abilities, and practical problem-solving. However, challenges including assessment complexity, teacher preparation requirements, time limitations, resource availability, and curriculum alignment continue to affect effective implementation. The study contributes to educational pedagogy research by explaining how PBL can support the transition from traditional knowledge-based learning toward competency-oriented education. The findings provide practical implications for educators, curriculum designers, and institutions seeking innovative approaches for developing learner capabilities required in contemporary environments. |
