Peer-to-Peer Lending and Access to Entrepreneurial Finance

Abstract Access to adequate financial resources remains one of the major challenges faced by entrepreneurs, particularly small businesses and early-stage ventures that often experience difficulties in obtaining traditional bank financing. Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending has emerged as an innovative digital financial mechanism that connects borrowers directly with individual and institutional lenders through online platforms. By reducing traditional intermediation barriers, P2P lending provides alternative financing opportunities for entrepreneurs seeking capital for business development and expansion.
This study examines the role of peer-to-peer lending in improving access to entrepreneurial finance. The research explores how digital lending platforms influence financing accessibility, credit availability, transaction efficiency, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurial growth opportunities. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of P2P lending toward improving entrepreneurial financing conditions.
The findings indicate that P2P lending platforms can enhance entrepreneurial finance access by reducing application barriers, improving funding speed, and supporting entrepreneurs who may face limitations in traditional credit markets. However, challenges including regulatory uncertainty, borrower risk assessment, platform reliability, information asymmetry, and investor protection concerns continue to influence the development of P2P lending ecosystems.
The study contributes to entrepreneurship finance and digital finance literature by explaining how technology-enabled lending models are transforming access to business capital. The findings provide practical implications for entrepreneurs, investors, financial institutions, and policymakers seeking effective approaches to improving entrepreneurial financing systems.
