Sustainable Investment and Portfolio Decision-Making

| Abstract | The growing importance of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and long-term economic resilience has significantly influenced modern investment practices. Sustainable investment has emerged as an important approach that integrates environmental, social, and governance considerations into portfolio decision-making processes. Unlike traditional investment strategies focused primarily on financial returns, sustainable investment evaluates both economic performance and broader social and environmental impacts. This study examines the role of sustainable investment principles in portfolio decision-making. The research explores how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations, risk management strategies, investor preferences, and sustainability-based financial analysis influence investment choices. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the contribution of sustainable investment factors toward improved portfolio outcomes. The findings indicate that sustainable investment approaches can enhance portfolio resilience by supporting long-term value creation, risk diversification, and alignment with changing investor expectations. ESG integration, responsible asset selection, and sustainability-focused evaluation methods demonstrate significant influence on investment decisions. However, challenges such as inconsistent ESG measurement standards, limited sustainability data, greenwashing concerns, and changing market conditions continue to affect sustainable portfolio management. The study contributes to sustainable finance and investment management literature by explaining how sustainability considerations are transforming traditional portfolio strategies. The findings provide practical insights for investors, financial institutions, portfolio managers, and policymakers seeking to develop responsible and sustainable investment frameworks. |
