Inflation, Household Consumption, and Financial Well-Being

| Abstract | Inflation represents one of the most important macroeconomic factors influencing household economic decisions, consumption patterns, and overall financial well-being. Rising prices of essential goods and services directly affect household purchasing power, income allocation, saving capacity, and financial security. As households respond to inflationary pressures, they often modify consumption behaviour, reduce discretionary spending, and adopt alternative financial strategies to maintain economic stability. This study examines the relationship between inflation, household consumption behaviour, and financial well-being. The research explores how changes in price levels influence household expenditure patterns, savings decisions, financial stress, and economic resilience. A conceptual analytical framework supported by simulated observations is developed to evaluate the impact of inflation on household financial conditions and consumption adjustments. The findings indicate that inflation significantly influences household financial well-being by reducing purchasing power and increasing pressure on essential expenditure categories. Households with limited income flexibility experience greater financial challenges, while effective budgeting, savings management, and financial planning contribute to improved resilience. The study also identifies major challenges including rising living costs, reduced savings capacity, income instability, and difficulty maintaining consumption standards. The research contributes to household economics and financial well-being literature by explaining how inflationary conditions shape individual financial behaviour. The findings provide practical insights for policymakers, financial advisors, and households seeking strategies to improve financial resilience during periods of economic uncertainty. |
