Entrepreneurial Resilience during Economic Uncertainty

Abstract Economic uncertainty has become a major challenge affecting entrepreneurial activities, business continuity, and growth opportunities across different sectors. Entrepreneurs operating in uncertain environments frequently encounter financial instability, market fluctuations, changing consumer behaviour, supply chain disruptions, and increasing competitive pressures. In such conditions, entrepreneurial resilience emerges as a critical capability that enables business owners to adapt, recover, and identify new opportunities despite external challenges. This study examines the role of entrepreneurial resilience in supporting business survival and performance during periods of economic uncertainty. The study adopts a quantitative research approach to analyse the relationship between resilience capabilities and entrepreneurial adaptation strategies. A simulated dataset representing small and medium-sized entrepreneurs was evaluated through descriptive analysis to understand the influence of strategic flexibility, financial preparedness, innovation capability, risk management, and psychological adaptability on business resilience.
The findings indicate that adaptive decision-making, resource flexibility, and innovation-oriented thinking are among the most significant factors contributing to entrepreneurial resilience. The research highlights that resilient entrepreneurs are better positioned to manage uncertainty by modifying business strategies, exploring alternative revenue opportunities, and maintaining stakeholder relationships. However, challenges such as limited financial resources, unpredictable market conditions, and restricted access to business support systems continue to affect resilience development among small enterprises. The study provides meaningful implications for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and business development institutions by emphasizing the importance of resilience-building strategies in uncertain economic environments.
