Social Entrepreneurship and Community-Based Innovation

| Abstract | Social entrepreneurship has emerged as an important approach for addressing complex social challenges through innovative and sustainable solutions. Unlike conventional entrepreneurship that primarily focuses on economic value creation, social entrepreneurship combines entrepreneurial strategies with social objectives to improve community well-being, inclusion, and sustainable development. Community-based innovation further strengthens this approach by enabling local communities to participate actively in identifying problems, designing solutions, and creating meaningful social impact. This conceptual study examines the relationship between social entrepreneurship and community-based innovation through the perspectives of social innovation theory, sustainable development, entrepreneurship studies, and community empowerment approaches. The study analyses how social entrepreneurs facilitate local innovation, encourage participation, develop inclusive solutions, and strengthen community resilience. The analysis indicates that social entrepreneurship provides a strategic mechanism for transforming community challenges into opportunities for innovation. Community participation, local knowledge, collaborative networks, and sustainable resource utilization significantly contribute to successful social innovation outcomes. The study highlights that social entrepreneurs often face challenges including limited financial resources, institutional barriers, scalability issues, lack of technological access, and difficulties in maintaining long-term sustainability. Effective leadership, stakeholder collaboration, supportive policies, and capacity-building initiatives are essential for overcoming these barriers. The study concludes that social entrepreneurship and community-based innovation represent powerful pathways for sustainable social transformation. Organizations and communities that integrate entrepreneurial thinking with participatory innovation approaches can develop resilient solutions, improve social outcomes, and create long-term community value. |
