Abstract The growing importance of environmental sustainability has encouraged organizations to integrate ecological responsibility into their strategic management practices. Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) has emerged as a significant approach that connects human resource policies with environmental objectives by encouraging sustainable employee behaviour, environmental awareness, green competencies, and responsible workplace practices. This research examines the relationship between Green Human Resource Management and environmental performance by analysing how employee-oriented sustainability practices contribute to organizational ecological improvement. The study adopts a conceptual analytical approach based on existing scholarly perspectives related to sustainable human resource management and environmental management. The paper explores major dimensions of GHRM, including green recruitment, environmental training, green performance evaluation, and employee participation, and examines their influence on environmental outcomes such as resource efficiency, waste reduction, energy conservation, and environmental compliance.
The analysis indicates that organizations with stronger green HR practices are better positioned to develop environmentally responsible workplace cultures. Employee engagement acts as an important mechanism through which sustainability strategies are converted into practical environmental actions. However, challenges including limited managerial support, inadequate sustainability knowledge, resistance to behavioural change, and difficulties in measuring green outcomes remain important barriers. The study highlights that human resource management should be considered a strategic contributor to environmental sustainability rather than only an administrative function. Integrating environmental responsibility into workforce policies can support organizations in achieving long-term sustainability goals while improving operational efficiency and organizational reputation.
