Abstract The increasing emphasis on sustainable business practices has expanded the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) beyond traditional workforce administration toward creating long-term value for employees, organizations, and society. Sustainable Human Resource Management (SHRM) focuses on developing people-oriented strategies that balance organizational performance with employee welfare, ethical employment practices, workplace sustainability, and long-term human capital development. In this context, employee well-being has become a critical indicator of organizational sustainability and workforce resilience. This study examines the relationship between Sustainable Human Resource Management and employee well-being through a conceptual analysis of HRM theories, workplace sustainability research, organizational behaviour studies, and employee health perspectives. The study explores how sustainable HR practices, including employee development, work-life balance initiatives, supportive leadership, fair employment practices, and workplace health programmes, contribute to improved employee experiences.
The analysis indicates that sustainable HRM practices positively influence employee well-being by enhancing job satisfaction, psychological safety, engagement, motivation, and organizational commitment. Organizations that prioritize employee welfare alongside business objectives are better positioned to develop healthier workplaces and maintain long-term workforce sustainability. However, challenges such as resource limitations, implementation difficulties, leadership gaps, and conflicts between short-term performance goals and employee needs may affect successful adoption. The study concludes that Sustainable Human Resource Management represents a strategic approach for integrating employee well-being with organizational sustainability objectives. Organizations that develop responsible and employee-centred HR practices can improve workforce performance, strengthen organizational resilience, and create sustainable value for all stakeholders.
