Software Quality Assurance in Agile Development Environments

| Abstract | The rapid adoption of Agile software development methodologies has significantly transformed the traditional approach to software engineering by emphasising flexibility, continuous delivery, collaboration, and iterative improvement. Within Agile environments, software quality assurance (SQA) has evolved from a separate testing activity into an integrated process embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. This transformation requires organisations to adopt new quality practices that support rapid development cycles while maintaining reliability, security, performance, and user satisfaction. This study examines the role of software quality assurance in Agile development environments by analysing quality practices, testing approaches, automation strategies, and implementation challenges. The research adopts a conceptual methodology based on existing scholarly literature, software engineering frameworks, and industry practices. The study explores how Agile principles influence quality assurance activities, including continuous integration, automated testing, code reviews, test-driven development, and collaborative quality management. The findings indicate that effective Agile quality assurance improves software reliability, accelerates defect detection, and enhances communication between development teams and stakeholders. However, organisations continue to face challenges related to changing requirements, limited testing time, automation complexity, skill gaps, and maintaining quality standards during frequent software releases. The study concludes that successful SQA implementation in Agile environments requires a combination of technical practices, organisational support, skilled teams, and continuous process improvement. |
