Artificial Intelligence Adoption and Organizational Innovation Capability

| Abstract | Artificial intelligence is increasingly viewed as a strategic organizational capability that can support knowledge discovery, process improvement, product development, service personalization, and business-model innovation. Nevertheless, adopting AI technologies does not automatically produce innovation. Organizations may invest in machine learning, automation, and predictive analytics without developing the complementary data infrastructure, employee competencies, governance arrangements, and learning processes required to convert those technologies into sustained innovative outcomes. This study examines the relationship between AI-adoption maturity and organizational innovation capability. It develops a multidimensional framework connecting AI adoption with absorptive capacity, digital infrastructure, workforce competence, cross-functional collaboration, experimentation, and responsible governance. Because no verified organizational dataset was provided, the study uses an explicitly simulated scenario involving 160 hypothetical organizations distributed equally across four adoption levels: minimal adoption, experimental adoption, scaled adoption, and strategic integration. An Organizational Innovation Capability Index is calculated from product innovation, process innovation, service innovation, knowledge integration, and innovation agility. The simulated index rises from 58.4 under minimal adoption to 91.1 under strategic integration. These illustrative differences are generated through a transparent scenario-based scoring model and do not constitute empirical evidence that AI adoption causes organizational innovation. The study concludes that the innovation value of AI depends on its integration with organizational strategy, employee expertise, reliable data, experimentation routines, and accountable managerial decision-making. |
